" Ocean Sunrise " SOLD

When it comes to sunrises and oceans I will be the one giving it a go. The sun has a way to heat the soul and cause you to pause and ponder. This is one of my favorite paintings in a long time. Notice how the sun heated the sand even in the shadow. This sure would make a great 30 X 40 painting however this is a 7 X 9. Meet you at the surf this new year enjoy and be safe.

This is a scene shared with me by a dear friend that loves the Texas Low country. God creation is so awesome bringing together such a wonderful combination of land sky and sea (a lake in this painting ).
What a great opportunity to blend our talents to capture that feeling. With color shape and texture talents only he can give us. Just love this gem hope you enjoy as well. Happy New Years & be safe.

How the painting was first posted was an photo disaster. I know you would enjoy it so here is a exact photo representation. That goes the painting justice. My hopes and dreams are to light the way for many to follow. Happy Holidays and Merry Christmas to you.

"Sunset Glow" SOLD

Don't you Think that sunrises / sunsets are the best expression of something bigger than yourself that how I feel when I see one and paint one. Captured this one after a long hard day what a gem. Always  have fun trying to capture the glow touching the edge of the earth and trees. Have a great day and keep a lookout for those sunsets.

"Coastal Seashell" SOLD

This is a shell I found on the East Coast a few years ago . I wanted to paint a still life so here it is.  This shell is the size of a Soft Ball very huge. Was trying a style that Dennis Sheehan talks about what a master Artist. It turned out better than expected. Again 6X6 on canvas board. My goal is to make it affordable enough that anyone can have a original of my artwork.

King of the Hill

More fun with perspective and color. I'm such a fan of Franks Serrano's Natural ability to capture atmospheric distance in his work. Thought I would give it a true with king of the hill.

Taking these picture outside sure has improved the true colors of these painting. Check out my blog and see the difference in my photo's of : " Lighting The Way "

Let me hear what you are thinking . Have fun and keep those brushes wet.

Tuesday, November 27, 2012

Having fun with size and color . One of my first 6X6 canvas board.
Painted just before all the foliage started to change color and fall. I didn't want to paint all the cars on the road I was fascinated with the twisted road and the obvious distance.
On a separate note think I got rid of the yellow photos.  This was taken in natural outdoor light. I'm liking it much much better.

Tuesday, November 6, 2012

This is one of the most exciting paintings I have done in a while. What I mean by that everything I did worked and worked Ala Prima. This is what I strive for and this is the desired result.
Done in one sitting one stroke at a time with the exact color needed. Take a close look and let me know your vote.

" Yellow and Green "

The sky turned darker and light just broke through and hit the yellow tops and there it was. A perfect blend of dark sky evergreen and yellow on top. delicious.

Sunday, November 4, 2012

I thought it odd to serve ice tea in a beer mug, as I looked at it next to my water w/ lemon it started to glow. The restaurant was dart however the light over the table made both look as if they where on fire. Love a challenge to paint  here's one with 2 of my favorites glass and light.

" Lighting The Way "

There's a change in the air that will start to empty the beaches.
Fall is on its way and here is my attempt to show it.I see this scene as the sun struggles to send us the last of the summers rays. As you know I love the beach and the sunset hope you do as well. :o)

It truly is a shame this photo is so yellow the original painting isn't. I need some tip's on capturing the real copy of my images. Reg lights in a home are to yellow, I'm thinking to take the picture in the natural day light. maybe that will help capture the real colors. This is what the picture really looks like big difference.

" Hidden Sunset "

Composition, color, design or just plain luck. I love to paint you just never know how a painting is going to turn out until its done. We have  the basics and all the skill and it still may not work. I feel like you are very lucky as a artist with a God given gift when they do. You be the judge. Thanks.

" Eastward Shore "

To be more exact Jersey Shore. Painted from a picture sent to my by my sister. She said this is a Doug picture so here it is. Layers of color to real yet true to design. This is the type challenge I love to paint. What you think?

"Looking Westward "

Looking westward and seeing another gift of a beautiful sunset.
Mauve and beige what a subtle yet powerful combo. This view with just a break of light throughout. The open range and all the possibilities beyond the imagination. I'm sure by now you can guess that I'm on a conquest to capture the sun and its effects. My thought today was,  you can take what some might think to be a bad view of the landscape and add the magic of a beautiful sky . It speaks for itself.  Thanks for you kindness , Doug C.

"Morning Calm"

Morning calm is what this paintings says to me. God has a way of painting the sky that calms and speaks to our soul that is so true.
May this day and this picture give you peace. :o).

Tuesday, September 18, 2012

An Artist friend of mine gave me this picture of this great looking car and said "I saw  this and  knew it was for you to paint." It sure caught my eye, so many curves to capture the light catching the top and the reflections . My favorite is the old trunk. Now you know where we get the name from. Enjoy. Have a Great day :o).

Monday, September 17, 2012

I'm sweating just thinking about how hot it was painting this. I'm so glad that the nights are getting cooler. There where so many things in this spot had to decide what was interesting and made for a good picture. Loved the colors and the feel of the cooler hills in the back ground what a play on colors.

"America won't stop working"

Donated to the "Wounded Warriors Art Auction " . Scene is in Atlanta Texas. The way the streets all had Flags everywhere at each corner. People working to support their family's. It was all to inspiring to take in . a lovely spot and a typical small town setting.
GOD BLESS AMERICA. Just saying. Enjoy.

Could not pass this buy fresh melons. I have to admit looks good and they where. This scene is what fascinated me about art you can take something you see every day. Create a painting and capture it for ever and it works. The two way sign the crates by the door and all those watermelons . Love it hope you do as well. Get a melon while you still can.

Tuesday, August 7, 2012

This Jewel is down town Atlanta TX. I have been wanting to paint some everyday down home everyday seines. And hopefully  show the object in a more painterly artist fashion. Art can and is in the eye of the beholder and with a little help from above. Translates into something of beautiful like little yellow caboose.  "

Love water we are naturally attracted to it . Blue is so calming and peaceful to the soul. We need more peace in the world we live in. Now is your chance to escape like I did when painting this one.Showing a sail boat in the far distance. The only draw back is the heat and bugs that come with such a scene. Hope it does the trick Enjoy the moment as I did.

" Garden Glow "

Wanted to work on the dimension of distance in this study. I feel i could have added more distance to the back foliage. However I think I'm on to something here. Again it sure could have been a better picture still working on that. Have a great week and have fun Enjoy.

Sunday, June 24, 2012

Water by itself has no color , It gets its color by reflecting things about it. The sky and a sunset sets the mood and the colors used.
As you can see the color of blue is in the shy however its only obvious in the darker shadows of the small rippling waves. The light  which is the sun glows of yellow filled the pure white. The far banks are grayed and blurred by the distance of atmosphere. I love the challenge of water the reflections of objects sky light and atmosphere. Give it a try you can go to the same spot and paint and have a different painting each time by the changes of the day, time and conditions. Wanted to share some water thoughts with this quick study.

This old mill was in the Road show and art appraisal fair. Was inspired by a artist friend and here she is. Someone just had to take it home SOLD. Thought you might wan't to take a look and see.
We raised allot of money at the sale for Breckenridge Village.

Monday, June 11, 2012

Someone said that I must enjoy reflections and light . I think this may be true because of the challenge of capturing the effect. I'm still in the process of the craft God has given me. I'm certainly enjoying the journey of Art. I would be encouraged and enjoy your thoughts and feedback. Thanks and Enjoy.

UPDATES, I have recently changed my photos on 2 of my previous posts. I have had collectors comment that my signature was taking away from my lovely work I agree. So if you look back on "CACTUS HIGH" and " CLASSIC TEA " you will see a updated photo.

This little barn if you can call it that was capturing the light and my eye. However the sky and background was somewhat subdued. I also thought how strange to have a light/white barn and a red roof and the cause for the title. I mention in a earlier barn post how these jewels are just disappearing one time I see it next it is gone.

Yellow Tops everywhere almost all the fields between Terrel  and
Rockwall . Found this little jewels sitting all by its self on top of a rolling hill overlooking I think toward Heath TX. Loved the shape contrast and most of all the view. Only thing missing was a few horses well maybe next time. The yellow tops where up to my knees we have had allot of rain this year. It sure shows considering the drought past year. check out the view and let me know?

I was painting 8X10 stretch canvas until one of my favorite painting got damages in shipping. Lately as you can see I have started painting 8X6 canvas on hard boards. I love the size because it is close to the same rectangle size as before. However my question is is this a good size for framing. I know allot of people use  5X7 to me thought this is way to small. Its amazing what a inch will do when you are used to painting 30X40.
Well enough on that this is another still life I did over the weekend.
I have always been fascinated by glass  especially different color glass. Glass that is clear and have a tint of color like the big one in the middle my favorite. Then the lights and reflection enough said  got to love it.
Enough blabbering take a look.

I set up two still life's today wanted to do something different. I have this stainless pitcher and my wife has been enjoying these mini oranges. They taste great by the way and are now gone thanks to me.
I set it up on the mantel of my fire place because i wanted it at eye level. And through a piece of cardboard behind it a more neutral color. The most fun and challenging was the tea bag and where to place it. Of course the silver pitcher is just glowing with light and reflections. Both from the spot light and a natural blue light from the windows . Will be posting another one tomorrow see what you think.

Just finished a show at the "Woman's Building" Tyler TX. I wanted to paint something and it was raining on and off so this "Oriental Vase" caught my eye on the mantle. Their was a back glow of the blue off the vase and a warm glow from the window. To a artist that's the magic you are looking for and it was right there set up and ready to be painted so here it is enjoy.

"Garden Stairway"

The stairs where made of sandstone very uneven and awkward. Quite a challenge one I wanted to take. The light and dark's are what really caught my eye. Again where is it leading you was the question I asked myself. Had to follow the light all the way up? Love rocks hopefully will get them down will see.

What is the attraction man has to the Ocean that we sit and marvel at it . Personally I love it. The sky reflecting in the water. Water capturing the sun. Wishing we were there. Enjoy.

Monday, March 26, 2012

As you can tell this is a companion painting to the last one. I was playing around with this composition and fell in love with it. It may not be for everyone however it is certainly a different view. Again 6X8 canvas on hardboard. I have learn the hard way you cannot ship stretch canvas without taking a big risk. Let me know how you feel about this one. :0)
