" LIFE LIGHT " SOLD

" Life Light " By Artist Doug Carter . 7 X 5 Gessoboard.
We are all looking for an answer a guide for life and a light is the perfect example of direction. So is it a reflection off the moon or  sun in the fog or just a light in the right place at the right time. This is for you to answer and hopefully something to think about. Is this a valley over a lake or stream or a reflected light cutting through a foggy storm. To look at this you feel calmness with the use of blues and the water reflection. However the light itself has warmth and  a strong sense of strength..
Whatever it is to you hopefully this painting gives you peace during the Christmas season.

" Christmas Sleigh " SOLD

" Christmas Sleigh " By Artist Doug Carter  7 X 5 Gessoboard.
Mom would decorate the house by adding the Christmas sleigh in the front yard. This is the one thing you had to have as a kid growing up in the northeast. Yes., this was a boyhood toy for us kids at one time. Allot of memories and good times playing in the winter wounder land., We would literally block off a street with huge piles of snow on the top of the hill on 16th st. Snow ride all day long until our hands turned numb.   It may be just a decoration now but it sure holds lots of memories to me.

" WINTERS PATH "

" Winters Path " Artist Doug Carter 5 X 7 .
As we hear about Buffalo NY getting another 3 feet of snow on top of the 6 feet previous. You either love it or hate it the one good thing about this snow is it doesn't melt or get cold. I painted this scene on a larger version if your interested let me know will make you a deal.  Back to this painting I love the fresh fall of new snow the cool shadows and warm sun glow creating an great contrast. Very much a path worth checking out don't get lost and enjoy.

" WINTER SKY " SOLD

" Winter Sky " By Artist Doug Carter  5 X 7 On Board.
It must be the change of the atmosphere the sky is looking beautiful . Weather its a sunrise or sunset the colors are from heaven and it shows.  The glow reflecting on the distance rolling hills is what really sold me on this painting . There where some cows and fence and that would have worked however it may have been a distraction from the beauty of the sky. Plus the fact you really can only get so much into a small painting without it looking confusing or over crowded. Maybe I will add them to the bigger painting ..

" Hot Rod "

"Hot Rod " By Artist Doug Carter 5 X 7.
Fall festival time brings out the car shows and this was a good one. This rod was super chopped and ready to go . Lots of colors hidden in this black chopped roadster. Loads of fun and a great cropping of the front and sides here.

" STANDING STRONG "

" STANDING STRONG " By Artist Doug Carter 10 X 8 . Oil Painting on Canvas.

This was all about that moment when the warm light hit the tree and created these beautiful blue and purple shadows. Standing tall and proud came to mind, you can see this tree has had challenges and yet like us somehow we make it. I almost didn't paint this one because I was always told never put the main subject
so close to the middle.Well this is obviously the exception to that rule and turned out just fine.

" FALL MOON " SOLD

"FALL MOON" Artist Doug Carter 5 X 7 .,
This is a great time of year where nature give us some spectacular colors and moods, that only occur in the fall. I paint almost every Saturday and as I'm loading my car this past weekend to do just that. I was four feet out my front door and this is what was waiting for me. High above the homes just off my road was this beautiful combination of  fall trees and this moon that was quickly cover behind clouds. This one is a keeper and caught me off guard sure was a pleasure to paint.

" Monument Canyon " SOLD

" Monument Canyon " By Artist Doug Carter 8 X 10.
As you can see their is allot to look at, one of the things you have to do as an artist is direct the scene.Probably the hardest thing is to choose whats important and what needs to be toned down and removed.I hope that you can see the depth and the detail where it was needed and you follow the stream and the shadows through this valley to the unknown in the distance.I also painted a larger version of this for a art demo still completely different.Love to here your thoughts and questions , Enjoy.

" Big Red " SOLD

" Big Red " By Artist Doug Carter,. Oil Painting on Gesso Board 5 X 7.

This bad boy is huge with duel wheels in the back  , It sure could get it done and is parked just down the road from me sitting in a parking lot by a trucking Co. The stories that could be told probable are quite amazing. Again I'm not sure of the make or model,  what does it look like to you send me an email.?
Is there another one in the works say Big Green Or Yellow etc we will see??

" Big Blue " SOLD

"Big Blue" by Doug Carter
I'm amazed how much detail you can get on a 5 X 7 painting and have so much caricature. I'm not familiar with this vehicle if you know the make and model let me know. One thing that we are blessed with in Texas is good condition older vehicles. It must be the fair weather we have and the love of these beauty's here. My next painting is call " Big Red " Huge older truck will post that tomorrow. I think the booth make a great pair however I think the truck is a little older than this car, you decide.?

"Ocean Front Vacancy" SOLD

"Ocean Front Vacancy" By Artist Doug Carter, 5 X 7 Oil painting on Hardboard.
What I love about this scene is placing yourself in the picture, taking in all the sounds the view and smells of the ocean air. The beach is so relaxing and something I'm familiar with how about you? Well as we head into fall the chair is empty waiting for us next year. Now its time to look forward to this next season and all the blessing we have .

" Hill Country Road " SOLD

" Hill Country Road " By Artist Doug Carter., Oil on hard Board. 5 X 7.
Inspired by a road that leads to an adventure. We love the hill country probably because nature is not  cut out of a mold . There are no two scenes the same. No two hills the same and certainly no two paths the same. God loves to show off and as a artist its always a challenge to capture the beauty of nature.

" MORNING SKY "

" Morning Sky" By Artist Doug Carter,on gessoboard 5 X 7.
The sound of the wind and the birds flying above. Couldn't help but notice this sky almost a silvery glow. It was hard to paint because I saw both elements in the color of the sky. It was very calming to paint and capture at the time. Enjoy the view and let the imagination soar thanks for checking it out.

" Country Road" SOLD

" Country Road " Doug Carter Artist, 5 x 7 Gessoboard. For me I liked the feeling of this field study because it shows such strong depth. Probably 10's of Acres and a sky to match the beauty of this massive land. As you can see there was a haze that was fun to capture. I was very curious to know where this road went didn't have a chance to find out yet. However one day we will see and there will probably be another painting. I feel this could be a very dramatic larger painting if I could capture the same feeling of the vast fields of land. Hope you enjoy my story and painting as much as I do.

" Water on Fire " SOLD

" Water On Fire" By Artist Doug Carter,.The power of the sun it brings life to everything we know and see because of it. No wounder it has fascinated us since the beginning of time. This shows how light will glow even through a solid tree and all its branches full of leaves. I challenged myself to capture this moment very happy with this attempt. The reflection in the water was just a bonus . Looks like water on fire sounds like a good title.

" Sea Glow " SOLD

" Sea Glow "  As you can see I'm still trying to push the colors and continue playing with a familiar theme of " Fire And Ice " . As you look at this you will see color surrounded by subtle grays in the blues of the sea and the  clouds as they change from pinkish to blue. Their are only a few colors that can be used in these transactions with out creating a mess. Again with the changes of colors with yellows and oranges to pinks same thing occurs. What are your thought any luck with transitions of colors are they still a mystery to you as well. .

" Tribute to Colin Page "

"Shrimp Boat " Recently spent a week in Charleston SC. A place I have lived and loved to be apart of.  There is so much material for a Artist to paint from the sea, charm of the old city and the variety of structures of an era gone by. So as I do so often in any town I looked for Art  Gallery's, I think Charleston had close to 30 listed. I feel in love with many artist works as I visited a few.. One Artist caught my interest that of Colin Page. So here is my try and tribute to one of his pieces. . Love It.

" Holy Cloud " - SOLD

Its all about the sky and most importantly the clouds with the glow. You may have heard me say this before I like to call this effect "Fire and Ice". What an effect and eye catcher I feel this will be. A conversation piece you can talk to your friends about for a all time. Whats the most amazing thing about this is I painted one not so long ago and said as I was driving down the road that scene was a once in a life time event. Just as I got done thinking that, I looked in the side view mirror and captured this scene behind me. Almost the same effect the last cloud painting had except it captured more of a red reflection from the sun. Blew my mind .

" New Life " SOLD

" New Life " Doug Carter Artist, Oil Painting 7 X 5.On Gesso Board. A Artist eye is never at rest when there are so many inspiring things to paint. I was playing Disc Golf with my son . Took my phone camera out and took this picture. My son stopped and said Dad what are you photographing? Showed him the scene, Said it reminds me of a poster I had of a drawing of a stump with a new growth of a twig growing out of it. It said "Never Give Up" .

" Sweet Beach "

" Sweet Beach " By Doug Carter Artist,.Do you remember ? Some of the best times where playing and even better playing at the beach. Yes there is always a struggle who gets the new shovel or bucket. In the end all works out and time makes memories. I love to see and smell of the ocean and the fun and excitement it creates.

" Summer Glow " - SOLD

" Summer Glow " I'm not sure, however I think sky's are my favorite subject. They are never the same not to mention the beautiful colors and variety of shapes and stages. They are always changing and  bring me closer to my belief in a true Maker. A beach sunset has two of my choice subjects, warm sky's and cool oceans what I call a fire and ice combinations.

" Breaking Light " - SOLD

" Breaking Light " The  Light changes everything that sounds Biblical ? You know the tree line has greens and browns in it right? That's what your brain tells you, I tell my students don't paint what you know.Paint what you see regardless of what you think.. Paint the color that is actually there I painted oranges and purples and just a touch of the green.. That's what I push myself to do its not easy. The Sun breaks through and the woods look like they are on fire it's the light. Paint the light and everything else will work out.

" RED SHED " - SOLD

Set off into the distance and off by itself was this little red shed. The woods where very dark and the sun just broke through and it appeared like a stop sign. Well it caught my eye and so I new it would catch yours. Warm and inviting ready for your home to enjoy.

" FARMLAND FIELDS " - SOLD

"Farmland fields" The story is the fields of cut hay seem to have a unique pattern that captures your thought. The design and how they eventually get cut and laid out create a maze of interest. The sky was just warming up and yet the fields where still covered with the morning coolness . Just enough heat breaking through to cover the tops of the bails and shine through some of the trees. I prefer the painting to tell the story so her it is. Enjoy

" Swamp Land " SOLD

More on Caddo Lake TX.,. I have had both these pictures in ornate frames as a pair, what an exciting set they make. I'm also thinking on painting an additional set in a more cooler than warmer setting.  Either later in the evening , late afternoon or foggy morning. The lake adds mystery and interest to the setting in the lake filled woods. The Spanish moss in also a bit different to paint as well.

" Cyprus & Moss " SOLD

This is one of my forever friends favorite places Caddo Lake TX. I find this area a real mysterious part of this lake. The colors and the feel of light is incredible.  I also did another one like this scene as a grouping, I will post tomorrow. The value and reflection in the water is very key and quite the challenge worth painting.  I want to do some more of this natural beauty so close to me in the East Texas Area. Will keep you posted take a look tomorrow at the Caddo Lake # 2 as well. Thanks for all the questions and kind words. For my Forever friend Liz thinking of you.

" Country Stream " - SOLD

I was thinking about selling these painting with frames. Then I remembered the conversation I have had with people buying my art. That they loved the painting however didn't care for the frame. So here is a 5 X 7 painting ready for one of your favorite frames. It has a glow in the field that has caught my eye, probably could have used a touch of purple to set off the orange a little better. What do you think it may need ?

" Moonlit Sail" - SOLD

Taking a Moonlit Sail across the lake. A reflection of the sun off the moon. Guiding the boat in the darkness. Now there's a thought to think on. The silence and peace of just the sail and the calm and quiet of the nights rest. You can almost write your own story as you look into this scene. May your journey in life have a guiding light on your path and a peace that surpasses all understanding as you sail through life.

" Camilla's Still Life "

I wanted something metal and shiny so I used my wife's stainless steel tea pot.  Like the Camilla's and just added the green grapes to compliment the red in the flower's. I like still life and the setup along with the lighting effect that you get to control . I have learned so much from my resent workshop. The thing that surprised me the most where the little things that mean allot to painting in general. I call it an tune up and well worth it. The painting is 10X better than this photo and will be hard to let go of. this is not a mini a stretch canvas 16 X 20. I  painted this against a thick tapestry  style drapery you can see the subtle waves of the material in the back ground. Who would have thought a shadow would look so cool , I think what makes it so cool is the fact its right next to the highlight. Another Happy Happy accident. enough gabbing let paint and have fun doing it.

Demo Day 2

Like I said earlier it has been 5 years since the last workshop with " One Stoke Whong ". This was the nick name given him at the workshop. Trust me this is a compliment and a strong testament to his style.
