" Ocean Sunrise " SOLD

When it comes to sunrises and oceans I will be the one giving it a go. The sun has a way to heat the soul and cause you to pause and ponder. This is one of my favorite paintings in a long time. Notice how the sun heated the sand even in the shadow. This sure would make a great 30 X 40 painting however this is a 7 X 9. Meet you at the surf this new year enjoy and be safe.

"Coastal Seashell" SOLD

This is a shell I found on the East Coast a few years ago . I wanted to paint a still life so here it is.  This shell is the size of a Soft Ball very huge. Was trying a style that Dennis Sheehan talks about what a master Artist. It turned out better than expected. Again 6X6 on canvas board. My goal is to make it affordable enough that anyone can have a original of my artwork.

King of the Hill

SOLD
http://douglascarter.blogspot.com/
More fun with perspective and color. I'm such a fan of Franks Serrano's Natural ability to capture atmospheric distance in his work. Thought I would give it a true with king of the hill.

Taking these picture outside sure has improved the true colors of these painting. Check out my blog and see the difference in my photo's of : " Lighting The Way "

Let me hear what you are thinking . Have fun and keep those brushes wet.

DISTANT ROAD

SOLD
Having fun with size and color . One of my first 6X6 canvas board.
Painted just before all the foliage started to change color and fall. I didn't want to paint all the cars on the road I was fascinated with the twisted road and the obvious distance.
On a separate note think I got rid of the yellow photos.  This was taken in natural outdoor light. I'm liking it much much better.

" TEA & WATER LEMON"

I thought it odd to serve ice tea in a beer mug, as I looked at it next to my water w/ lemon it started to glow. The restaurant was dart however the light over the table made both look as if they where on fire. Love a challenge to paint  here's one with 2 of my favorites glass and light.

" Lighting The Way "

Before
There's a change in the air that will start to empty the beaches.
Fall is on its way and here is my attempt to show it.I see this scene as the sun struggles to send us the last of the summers rays. As you know I love the beach and the sunset hope you do as well. :o)
After

It truly is a shame this photo is so yellow the original painting isn't. I need some tip's on capturing the real copy of my images. Reg lights in a home are to yellow, I'm thinking to take the picture in the natural day light. maybe that will help capture the real colors. This is what the picture really looks like big difference.

Composition, color, design or just plain luck. I love to paint you just never know how a painting is going to turn out until its done. We have  the basics and all the skill and it still may not work. " Eastward Shore "

To be more exact Jersey Shore. Painted from a picture sent to my by my sister. She said this is a Doug picture so here it is. Layers of color to real yet true to design. This is the type challenge I love to paint. What you think?

"Looking Westward "

SOLD
Looking westward and seeing another gift of a beautiful sunset.
Mauve and beige what a subtle yet powerful combo. This view with just a break of light throughout. The open range and all the possibilities beyond the imagination. I'm sure by now you can guess that I'm on a conquest to capture the sun and its effects. My thought today was,  you can take what some might think to be a bad view of the landscape and add the magic of a beautiful sky . It speaks for itself.  Thanks for you kindness , Doug C.

Love water we are naturally attracted to it . Blue is so calming and peaceful to the soul. We need more peace in the world we live in. " Garden Glow "

SOLD

END OF DAY

SOLD
Water by itself has no color , It gets its color by reflecting things about it. The sky and a sunset sets the mood and the colors used.
As you can see the color of blue is in the shy however its only obvious in the darker shadows of the small rippling waves. The light  which is the sun glows of yellow filled the pure white. The far banks are grayed and blurred by the distance of atmosphere. I love the challenge of water the reflections of objects sky light and atmosphere. Give it a try you can go to the same spot and paint and have a different painting each time by the changes of the day, time and conditions. Wanted to share some water thoughts with this quick study.

"RED ROOF INN"

SOLD

UPDATES, I have recently changed my photos on 2 of my previous posts. I have had collectors comment that my signature was taking away from my lovely work I agree. So if you look back on "CACTUS HIGH" and " CLASSIC TEA " you will see a updated photo.

This little barn if you can call it that was capturing the light and my eye. However the sky and background was somewhat subdued. I also thought how strange to have a light/white barn and a red roof and the cause for the title. I mention in a earlier barn post how these jewels are just disappearing one time I see it next it is gone.
Enjoy.

"RED ORANGE AND CLEAR"

SOLD
I was painting 8X10 stretch canvas until one of my favorite painting got damages in shipping. Lately as you can see I have started painting 8X6 canvas on hard boards. I love the size because it is close to the same rectangle size as before. However my question is is this a good size for framing. I know allot of people use  5X7 to me thought this is way to small. Its amazing what a inch will do when you are used to painting 30X40.
Well enough on that this is another still life I did over the weekend.
I have always been fascinated by glass  especially different color glass. Glass that is clear and have a tint of color like the big one in the middle my favorite. Then the lights and reflection enough said  got to love it.
Enough blabbering take a look.

" ORANGE TEA "

SOLD
I set up two still life's today wanted to do something different. I have this stainless pitcher and my wife has been enjoying these mini oranges. They taste great by the way and are now gone thanks to me.
I set it up on the mantel of my fire place because i wanted it at eye level. And through a piece of cardboard behind it a more neutral color. The most fun and challenging was the tea bag and where to place it. Of course the silver pitcher is just glowing with light and reflections. Both from the spot light and a natural blue light from the windows . Will be posting another one tomorrow see what you think.
